The Ballad of Stacie Mistysyn

Track Three from my upcoming album

It was a cold day in Toronto when I saw her

Standing by the beer store

She took my hand and promised

I don’t have to feel those difficult feelings any more

And all the dreams I had about my attractive teachers

Somehow faded away

And all the fears I had of peer pressure

They left me that day

Stacie I know that you were only acting, but I can tell that it’s real

Stacie I know that you can feel everything I feel

Shaken up like a mountain blizzard

Like a seizure at a slumber party

Just as the snows of Ontario

Will thaw in the light of the uncaring orb that is the sun

So did the black nights when nothing could go right

All melt with joy

And in the harsh unforgiving glare of the day

I knew myself as never before

Stacie I know that you were only acting, but I can tell that it’s real

Stacie I know that you can feel everything I feel

It was a cold day in Toronto when I saw her

Staring at bloodstained mittens

Wondering why in this day and age

We must hate each other, we must hate ourselves

Like a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a toilet

We sabotage our own happiness

We cheat on ourselves like common beavers because we refuse

To know love

To know her

Stacie I know that you were only acting, but I can tell that it’s real

Stacie I know that you can feel everything I feel
