Previously on Masterchef: Queensland Week kicked off as part of 2019’s “any random concept can be a Week” season of Masterchef. Several amateurs stuffed up and must now fight desperately for their lives, thanks to the new rule that eliminated contestants are to be killed.

Tonight on Masterchef: Larissa, Steph, Tim and the hypothetical proposition that has been dubbed “Ben” are in black aprons, trying to avoid being sent home to their nightmarish friends and families. Outside a restaurant they meet Matt, George, Gary, and some guy who looks like Gary’s older brother. This is Shannon Kellam, a chef who is a great favourite of Tessa, but who is a complete nobody to everyone else on earth. Matt explains that Shannon has represented Australia more than 20 times at international cooking competitions, including winning gold at the Culinary Olympics. “Gold at the Culinary Olympics, that’s massive,” says Tim, manfully striving to give the impression that he knows what the hell the Culinary Olympics are.

The challenge today is to recreate one of Shannon’s dishes, which is difficult because Shannon’s a real show-offy prick. They will have to recreate it without a recipe, which is a challenge as cruel as it is pointless.

The losers head inside the restaurant so Shannon can show them how to make his needlessly complicated dish. The dish is a small brown brick with a small pink ball sitting next to it, and also a dark brown ribbon. It’s not so much a dessert as a rhythmic gymnastics apparatus set.
