Masterchef Recap: Suffer In Your Jock

Previously on Masterchef: “The Best of the Best Week” began, as a slap in the face to every guest chef who had appeared previously.

Tonight on Masterchef: Some dude comes in and yells at everyone.

“I’m expecting anything in the kitchen,” says Derek, as usual unable to focus effectively on any single idea. Gary welcomes the amateurs to the kitchen and informs them that there is no pressure test: whoever wins today joins Nicole and Simon in this week’s immunity challenge. So there’s no pressure except for that they put on themselves and also all the pressure that is obviously on them.

Matt introduces the guest chef. He is a man who cooks food and has a restaurant. Apparently he intends to preserve Australian indigenous food culture, for which he has been called a madman and a megalomaniac, yet who ever achieved greatness without a little madness?

Also his name is Jock Zonfrillo and Ben has heard of him, so that’s what makes him the Best of the Best. Matt asks Jock what he loves about Australian Indigenous food culture, and Jock replies that it’s the vibe and stuff.

The amateurs line themselves up behind hidden ingredients, one for each contestant. Christina gets some kind of odd pepper. Ben gets white currants, which are…I don’t know. Anushka gets lillipillies. Or lilly pillies. Something like that. They’re little red things. Tati gets aniseed myrtle, which sounds revolting. Tessa gets native lemongrass, so she might as well be cooking with her…
