Previously on Masterchef: Everything else.

Tonight on Masterchef: This.

This is it. The endgame. The pointy end. The climactic consummation of all that blood, sweat and tears. The grand final that decides who, of the three remaining amateurs, will be Australia’s Masterchef for 2019.

More than that, this will be the last Masterchef to be crowned by Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston and George Calombaris, who after eleven seasons judging the nation’s best amateur cooks have decided they need to step back to spend more time with their bank accounts.

The finalists: Tessa, a master of grating voices whose command of culinary techniques has seen her labelled “a cook” by some of Australia’s most prominent experts; Simon, who has stunned all with his ability to turn an ordinary pile of unappetising vegetables into a slightly warmer pile of unappetising vegetables; and Larissa, who hasn’t let the fact that she doesn’t know how to make anything that isn’t a dessert get in the way of her dream of never going fifteen consecutive seconds without talking.

The three finalists walk into the Masterchef kitchen and are greeted by the three judges and all the talentless losers standing on the balcony, ready to shout their unwanted opinions all day. The judges ask them how they’re feeling. All of them are feeling nervous yet also smug. George tells them that they have all proven they are not only great cooks, but also great people, and that he’s sure they wouldn’t be the kind…
