OK, I’ve said this before, but I have to say it again, because in these times repetition is one of the most important tools we have, and some subjects are serious enough to warrant never shutting up about.

There is only one thing that we need to say about Greta Thunberg:

“She’s right”.

We don’t need to defend her right to speak. We don’t need to defend her honour as a brave teenage warrior. We don’t need to protect her from the vicious bastards attacking her relentlessly in the media — and they ARE vicious bastards, make no mistake.

What we need to do is agree with her, and amplify her, and take up her cause. What we need is not to nod in agreement with what she says, but to repeat what she says, and repeat it as loudly as possible and as often as possible as it gets through.

Climate change is real. It is threatening the world. It is threatening US. To save humanity from the very worst effects of it, individual actions will not cut it. Fiddling around the edges will not cut it. Minor, measured, incremental change will not cut it. What is necessary for there to be any hope at all is major, rapid and drastic action on the part of governments.

That’s why Greta Thunberg is not urging us to turn off our lights, or be conscientious about our recycling: she’s telling the governments of the world to show some guts and bloody DO something.

That’s what we need. That’s what we should all be driving towards. The only meaningful…
