Trying not to think
About hard it was to be
Half man, half Hosmer’s Skink
Rejected by the human world
Rebuffed by Skinkdom too
He was alone and friendless till
He found out about glue
If you have never seen a skink
A-huffing from some Clag
If watching rare half-man half-lizards
Sniff glue is not your bag
Then you must have no real idea
You’d have no earthly clue
Of how a skinkman’s life can change
When he gets on the glue
His claws grew long and shiny as
His scales regained their sheen
His eyes were bright, his tail was long
The longest I have seen
He got a job in banking and
A girlfriend from Peru
“I owe it all,” he told his friends
“To sniffing lots of glue”
But just when it seems nothing could
Upset a happy life
So often that is when the fates
Step in to give us strife
