A Poem A Day: August 9: Malcolm

I wonder if Malcolm Turnbull says to himself
Each day before he leaves the house
“I believe in plebiscites”
“I believe in Manus Island”
“I believe in the Liberal Party”
I wonder if he sits at his desk, when the room is empty, and murmurs beneath his breath
“I am making a difference”
I wonder if he lies in bed and stares at the ceiling and silently mouths to the darkness
“This is my legacy. I am proud.”
I wonder if he looks in the mirror and sees the prime minister looking back
And says
“I have done what I always wanted to do”
