Melinda
If I wrote a song about a girl
I would call her Melinda
And every girl I know would wonder
Whether she was Melinda
Except for the one girl I know called Melinda
Who I would assure, “No of course it’s not you”
She would believe me
Because I haven’t seen her in years
And I never think about her
Except when writing songs
With her name
But actually the song wouldn’t be about her
It would be about a girl
Who doesn’t exist
But who wears
Extremely attractive glasses
Nobody would like the song
And I would see this
As proof of its greatness
